Guang'an Institute of Technology is a newly established, provincially-administered public undergraduate institution sponsored by the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government and regulated by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education. Situated at the foot of Lion Mountain in Guansheng New District—the hometown of Deng Xiaoping, Chief Architect of China’s Reform and Opening-up—the campus borders the scenic Guansheng Lake. Embracing a courtyard-style layout, it seamlessly integrates with the surrounding mountains and waters, drawing inspiration from the architectural heritage of the Song Dynasty. Distinguished by whitewashed walls and dark tiled roofs, the campus exudes an understated elegance, cultivating a serene, dignified, and intellectually profound academic atmosphere.
Centering on macro-level visual integration and student-and-faculty-centric experience, this project applies a professional, systems-based design methodology to deliver a comprehensive suite of furniture and coordinated soft furnishings for the university. The scope spans administrative offices, teaching facilities, libraries, student apartments, and dining venues.
In configuring spatial layouts and furniture specifications, Upnew Furniture anchored its strategy in the campus’s holistic environmental context. We addressed the multifaceted demands of modern pedagogical scenarios through rational functional considerations, ensuring continuity with the institution’s historical legacy while infusing the spaces with design expressions finely tuned to contemporary learning modalities.
The Classroom – A Versatile Vessel for Multidimensional Pedagogy
As one of the most emblematic spatial signatures of a university, the lecture hall features a white lacquered steel framework paired with solid wood tabletops, balancing structural robustness with ethereal lightness. Clean, decisive linear gestures establish a modern yet restrained visual order. Meanwhile, the contoured backrests and seats employ ergonomic design principles, returning to the essentials of function to provide students with a profoundly comfortable and relaxed learning experience.
Transcending conventional instructional settings, this project is anchored in a learner-centric paradigm. Whether facilitating seminar-style discourse, collaborative co-creation, personalized expression, or interactive showcases, the design configures highly agile pedagogical scenarios tailored to diverse curricula and instructional demands. This approach ensures the infrastructure adapts seamlessly to a broader spectrum of teaching methodologies and learning modalities.
The Library – A Co-creation Hub for Technology and Humanities
Poised at the heart of the campus central axis, the library rises with monumental massiveness. Like a stately ark laden with the entirety of human scholarship, it epitomizes an aura of majestic grandeur.
Within the space, bespoke bookshelves and reading tables-chairs crafted from curated solid wood unfold in rhythmic succession. Complementing these are single-occupancy and multi-user silent study pods, engineered with integrated acoustic technology to deliver self-contained, distraction-free zones for deep scholarly contemplation.
The poised tactility of the solid wood furnishings balances seamlessly with the intuitive agility afforded by smart technology. This synergy bestows upon the space a dual character: the grounded grace of humanistic scholarship and the vital pulse of contemporary relevance. Here, thoughts settle in the hush of solitude, while creative sparks ignite within the interplay of light and shadow.
Apartments – Cultivating Residential Warmth
Within the faculty residences, a harmonious dialogue unfolds between traditional Oriental poeticism and pared-back contemporary minimalism. The design language is crisp and uncluttered, featuring lacquer finishes that radiate a lustrous yet subdued sheen. This refined aesthetic is anchored by the substantial presence of solid wood, while the inviting warmth of upholstered seating softens the spatial experience. Together, these elements converge to define a sophisticated materiality, crafting a residential environment of exceptional quality.
Within the student Apartments, our design ethos transcends the purely utilitarian function of habitation, centering instead on recreating the authentic, lived-in warmth of a true home.
Reinforced steel frameworks paired with eco-certified panels establish a robust defense for safety and well-being. Semi-concealed workstations, full-perimeter blackout curtains, and voluminous storage solutions carve out undisturbed private sanctuaries within compact footprints. Fully pre-wired utility interfaces and motion-activated overhead lighting render true turnkey convenience readily accessible.
Beyond the aforementioned primary zones, the administrative and ancillary spaces adhere to a consistent ethos of pragmatic solidity and functional primacy. Through the deployment of grounded material textures, chromatic restraint, and disciplined spatial rhythm, these areas cultivate an atmosphere of rational introspection. This rigorous environmental character resonates deeply with the unadorned focus intrinsic to pedagogical pursuits.
